Art practice
I am a practice-based researcher working within the field of socially engaged arts. My work centres on identity – lost and regained through leaving home. It explores the sense of belonging and the stages of adjustment to the new environment. Longing for home, the one left and that doesn’t exist anymore is a childhood memory we can all relate to. This gives me a plethora of themes to develop in my artwork – past, present, future, roots, migration, displacement, memory, belonging, a sense of place… I present them in various formats, mainly drawing on imagery and the sound, recalling memories of the place, age and circumstance and producing visions and stories. People exist in the realm of spectacle as everyday subjects and we invite performative by our presence in spaces. I use the contact with the public to devise displays that adequately transfer the private into the public sphere and tell us about ourselves.
